The Naming of the pups

Naming your kid is wonderful and exciting.  Though sometimes it leads to misunderstanding when the Dad and the Mom couldn't agree on one.  Worse, when the in laws or the grandparents come into the picture.

Good thing that I am not naming a kid.  I am naming Brandie's 5 pups.

Naming a kid  should be done after birth so that the birth certificate could be processed.  Naming a puppy could be done many weeks later or could be changed when they would be able to respond to it.

Being from the same litter, I thought it would be nice that the names should be around a certain theme.  Whew!  I thought it would be easy.

Since Mama Brandie's name sounds like an alcoholic drink, I was thinking of Cognac, Champagne, Whiskey,  Vodka, Tequila. Cute, but there's a negative implication to this.

I just finished watching Immortals and Wrath of the Titans.  Why not name the pups after the Greek Gods.  Apollo, Hermes, Athena, Artemis and Demeter.  The kids might have a hard time pronouncing these and might be confusing for them.

I just decided on names with specific country of origin, and with sound that seems to reflect the pup's personality.  Two-syllable names with last syllable after the short sound of a vowel.

Meet the Fav Five:

Diego (Spanish).  Looks like a Rottweiler.  The first to walk.  The first to bark.  The protector and defender of the siblings.  Somewhat territorial.  He would feel my presence ahead of the brood, and would give a low growl and then a puppy bark.  He deserves an alpha male-sounding name.

Sasha (Russian).  The smallest and the cutest.  She charms her way to me. Very sweet.  Likes licking my wet fingers and my feet.  The playful one.  She would still be playing with her siblings while they sleep, chewing on their toes, ears, tails.  She likes me holding her and then looking at me.  She's always playing with the steel tubular legs of the folding table.

Marius (Italian).  The biggest.  Has the thickest coat.  Resembles a small Saint Bernard but with gray spots.  Sleeps longer than his siblings.  Though big, he would sometimes use her siblings as his mattress.  He likes sleeping on top of them.  He knows how to be embarrassed.  One time when he was playing, he accidentally fell backwards.  Bumped his head.  Let out a cry.  Then hid behind Diego.  He stayed there for about 2 minutes.  Then I lift him up and consoled him.  When I put him down, he was  ready to play again.

Amber (English). She's the only brown colored pup, but not the same shade as Mom Brandie.  I thought her coat's shade resembles an amber bottle. She usually stares at me.  Drowning me in her eyes much like distilling spirits.  Except for being the quietest girl, she doesn't have a very distinct pup personality.

Hachi (Japanese).  From Hachiko the famous Japanese dog.  I am in a dilemma at this. I've always wanted Hachi.  The girl pup is the last without a name.  But her personality is the opposite of Hachiko's.  Hachiko was so cool, calm, collected, quiet, patient.  My Hachi is the loudest and crier.  She's always calling for Mama Brandie.  She likes to be with her siblings.  If she would be adopted,  it should be together with one of her siblings. Hachi is still a tentative name for this grey pup.

  1. Yep. Marius is the best looking pup. He would be adopted by a neighbor who has promised to really take care of him. This neighbor takes care of Brandie as well. If all the pups have been adopted already, I could always count on Marius' new owner to feed Brandie as well.

Marius is the romantic guy from Les Miserables. Hope Marius, the pup, could also find his Cosette when he's grown up. :)
